"Our Equal Home" is an interactive role-playing game designed to foster understanding of gender dynamics within families. Through immersive storytelling and perspective-taking, players experience the challenges and opportunities for creating more equitable domestic spaces.
What Inspired Me
My inspiration for "Our Equal Home" came from observing the subtle ways gender inequality manifests in everyday family life. Growing up, I witnessed how different expectations, responsibilities, and opportunities were assigned based on gender. Simple moments – like who was expected to help in the kitchen, or whose career aspirations were taken more seriously – revealed deeper patterns of inequality.
Key moments that sparked this project:
- Conversations with friends about their experiences navigating family expectations
- Observing how household responsibilities were distributed in different families
- Realizing that many well-meaning people simply hadn't considered these dynamics from other perspectives
- Understanding that change often begins with awareness and empathy
What it does
Our Equal Home is a role-playing game that lets players assume the roles of different family members facing gender-related issues. From managing expectations to navigating family responsibilities and societal pressures, players make decisions that influence the characters’ lives. Through interactive scenarios, players experience the hurdles women often face and gain a new perspective on how gender biases and stereotypes shape our world. The game encourages players to build empathy, challenge stereotypes, and ultimately become allies for equality.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud to have created a game that can inspire empathy and promote gender equality in a unique way. With help of Gemini I was able to design scenarios that provide real insight into different gender experiences without relying on clichés or oversimplifications.
And most of all I am proud of submitting this project with a hope to improve it in future.
Looking forward
This project is a simple game concept in form of meaningful dialogue and change. Future plans include:
- Expanding scenarios to include more diverse family structures
- Providing user with reflection and action plan.
- Creating support materials for continued learning
- Adding Pre and post-game awareness assessments
- Behavioral change tracking
- Community discussion forums
