Inspiration
As college students, it may be difficult to focus and be productive, so we decided to develop a web application that helps students do just that.
What it does
Otter Scholar aims to help students focus and be productive during school, work, or anything else! And the website application does this by allowing students to keep track of their tasks as well as add new ones and finish current ones. Otter Scholar connects each task to a Pomodoro timer, which is proven to be effective in helping maintain focus. With the clarity of which task is at hand and a Pomodoro method equipped on Otter Scholar, students can expect to experience high levels of concentration and productivity!
How we built it
To build Otter Scholar, we focused on developing the project with Python, CSS, HTML, and Flask in VSCode. We began the wireframe and UI design for the project in Figma.
Challenges we ran into
One main challenge was having to work with multiple languages. Developing a single project in multiple languages has been difficult, but we conducted research to help us learn how we can integrate Python, HTML, and CSS together using Flask framework.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of working as a team to develop as much as we could for this project, starting from the wireframe to the actual implementation in VSCode. We were persistent in coding the project and are proud of the functionalities that work so far.
What we learned
We learned a lot during this hackathon, more than we expected. Coming into the hackathon, we were really skilled with Python, CSS, and HTML, and have never used Flask. But as we are approaching the end of this hackathon, we have learned extensively how to use each of these technologies to create our project. We also learned a lot more about libraries that can be used to implement functionalities.
What's next for Otter Scholar
For Otter Scholar, we hope to complete all of its functionalities after this hackathon and develop the user interface better.
