The creation of Open Research was prompted by a number of challenges faced by the scientific community in sharing research proposals and data. Traditional methods of sharing research data, such as through email or online databases, are often centralized and may be vulnerable to hacking, data breaches, or other forms of interference. This can compromise the integrity of the data, and may also make it difficult for researchers to access and collaborate on important projects.
Additionally, there is often a lack of transparency in the scientific community, with many research proposals and data being kept confidential or restricted to a select few individuals or institutions. This can create a barrier to collaboration and may also limit the scope of scientific research.
What it does
Open Research is a decentralized platform that allows the scientific community to securely store and share research proposals and data. Using the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS), the platform ensures that research data is distributed across multiple nodes rather than being stored in a central location, making it resistant to tampering or interference.
Researchers can upload their research proposals and data to the platform, where it is accessible to other members of the scientific community. This allows for greater transparency and collaboration, enabling researchers to build on each other's work and advance scientific progress.
How we built it
Tech stack used :
- HTML/CSS
- Javascript
- React.js
- Ethers.js
- IPFS/Filecoin
- Hardhat
- Quicknode
- Polygon
- TailwindCSS
- Solidity
Challenges we ran into
Integrating IPFS with the front-end using web3.storage was a tricky part since there were many packages conflicting with each other because of different versions.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully making an MVP which is publicly available and fully functional
What we learned
This project surely helped me gaining new exposure on how research proposals play a crucial role in advancing the scientific community. On the technical side of the project, I learned a lot about working with different libraries
What's next for Open Research
Future plan ( mentioned in detail in the docs )
- Integrate the smart contract
- Appoint auditors and moderators
- Focus on marketing
Built With
- css3
- ethers
- hardhat
- html5
- ipfs
- javascript
- polygon
- quicknode
- react.js
- solidity
