Inspiration
When my (Saanvy) aunt was first diagnosed with cancer, doctors initially thought she had sarcoma—a rare cancer. Yet, it was actually diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, which can look very similar. If there had been a tool to instantly connect her doctors with global experts and similar patient cases, they could have found the right diagnosis and treatment much faster.
What it does
Oncora is a secure platform where verified doctors upload anonymized patient data—genomics, treatments, and outcomes. Our AI instantly analyzes this data, finds similar cases globally, and predicts the most effective treatments. Beyond data, Oncora builds a collaborative network, enabling doctors to connect with peers treating similar cases, share real-world insights, and accelerate advancements in cancer care together.
How we built it
Front End: • Framework/Library: React with Typescript • Language: Typescript • Package Manager: npm (Node Pack Manager)
Back End: • Framework/Library: Express.js (inside Node.js) (common setup for JS back end) • Language: JavaScript • Package manager: npm (Node Pack Manager)
Challenges we ran into
- Our logo on our website didn't fully upload
- Had to debug our code a lot
- Data privacy: ensuring the patient information stays anonymous
- Simulating Real Data: creating realistic, anonymized patient cases for testing without access to real medical records.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Developing a functioning website and UI that anonymizes patient data while enabling meaningful analysis.
- The UI effectively collects new data and integrates it into the existing database
What we learned
• How critical doctor verification is to building trust in a medical platform • Challenges of working with simulated data and the need for realistic testing environments • The power of AI to uncover patterns and support clinical decision-making • Designing a user experience that balances complex functionality with simplicity for busy professionals • The value of collaboration within our team and as a core feature for our platform’s users)
What's next for oncora
• Scale from pilot hospitals → national → global network • Integrate more cancer types and subtypes into the database • AI-driven personalized treatment recommendations • Real-time research collaboration channels • Global cancer “conversation” hub for professionals
