What inspired your project?

At the end of my winter break, I wanted to play some rocket league during the day. However, I was living at my friends house, and he has a 10 year old brother. Every time I tried to play, my friends’ brother would come into the room and watch me. Then, my friends’ mom would get mad that my friends’ brother was not paying attention in class. This was unfortunate for my rocket league skills, as I had to stop playing during the day.

What problem does your project solve?

Teachers often complain that their students aren’t paying attention in classes held over videoconference. It’s too easy for a student to mute themselves, turn their cameras off, and look at their phone for the whole class period. Some students don’t even have a camera, or turning it on could be a privacy issue for them.

How does your project solve the problem?

We used a similar approach to Mr. Beasts’ finger on the app challenge. In his challenge, there was a circle that appeared that you had to move your finger to every now and then. For our project, we make the students click on a box every minute or two.

What technologies did your project use? Include programming languages, libraries, and any external tools.

We used HTML, javaScript, notebook++ and Atom to complete this. We were planning on using Flask, but one of out team members was familiar with javaScript.

What challenges did you run into?

Because this is our first time, there were multiple challenges. Some of these include getting our mouse click to register, creating the variable scoring system, and creating the timing system. We got past this by watching YouTube videos and using our mentors.
