Inspiration
Our inspiration was our dietary issues that caused difficulty in finding the correct products to eat in stores and managing our daily diet. Many others share that problem, so we decided to come up with a solution using technology.
What it does
Nutrinavigator can scan products for their nutritional value and help you manage your diet personalized to your own needs, regardless of who you are. It aids those with dietary needs and health conditions that require a precise selection of foods.
How we built it
We built NutriNavigator on over 2 million food products of the Open Food Facts database. We then utilized scientific research and dietitian advice to match it with dietary profiles.
Challenges we ran into
We had issues integrating the large database into our app, but in the long term, it proved useful for catering to a variety of diets with a vast amount of food. We also had some trouble simplifying the user interface to make it more user-friendly and easy to use.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of being able to integrate such a large database into our program and create accurate recommendations with our system. It effectively scans barcodes for ease of use and helps those with dietary needs.
What we learned
We learned the intricacies of nutritional analysis as well as the significance of data integration accuracy. Furthermore, we also learned the significance in presentability/interface in making the app user-friendly.
What's next for NutriNavigator
We plan to improve our recommendation algorithms and enhance the user interface. Also, we will incorporate user feedback into the equation and build a stronger developer-user connection through it.
