Inspiration
We've all lost a number because our phone died at the wrong moment. Numpickup was inspired by that universal frustration, blending the ancient Memory Palace technique with a more modern approach the PAO.
What it does
This app teaches you how to memorize numbers by encoding them into unique images in your mind. No pen, no phone, no problem. You don’t just get a tool; you learn a lifelong skill.
How we built it
We chose a modern, fast, and scalable stack for this web application:
- Frontend: Built with React and TypeScript, styled with Tailwind CSS.
- Backend & Deployment: Powered by serverless Netlify Functions running Node.js.
- AI Integration: Connected to the OpenRouter AI API to enable personalized memory techniques
Challenges we ran into
- Never built a web app before, i have a python background
- The main challenge was making a powerful, ancient technique feel simple and not intimidating. We had to cut down instructions to their absolute core to make it accessible in minutes.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Built a functional MVP from idea to prototype in just one day.
- Successfully transformed a complex mental skill into a simple, fun tutorial that anyone can use.
What we learned
Simplicity is everything. If a user can't grasp the concept immediately, the app has failed. Our focus became stripping away everything unnecessary to teach the skill as fast as possible.
What's next for Numpickup
- AI Image Generator (Premium): Instantly create the vivid images needed to make memorization effortless.
- NSFW Mode (Optional): Leveraging cognitive science—shocking images create the strongest memories. This optional mode is for users who want maximum retention.
