Inspiration
At the start of every semester, UBC's Center for Accessibility sends out emails to students of certain classes, offering Notetaker jobs to help support students that have a disability and can't easily take notes themselves. We decided that we wanted to create something that would help simplify the process and improve the experience for students both receiving the notes, and taking the notes. Google Docs is good for this, but it lacks LaTeX support, which is essential for math-intensive courses.
What it does
SimpleTeX allows you to share and contribute to notes with classmates with little overhead. It has LaTeX support and cloud storage!
How we built it
We built it with JavaScript, React, CSS, and HTML. The database uses firebase.
Challenges we ran into
None of us came into this with any web development experience, so we had to learn from scratch as we went along.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to build a website from scratch without any prior knowledge!
What we learned
This was our first Hackathon, so we learned how to divide up work between us. We also learned JavaScript and React from scratch.
What's next for SimpleTeX
Accounts and security for users More debugging Various UX/UI improvements
