Inspiration
During the outbreak of the pandemic, there has been an increase in the number of homeless people. In times of natural disasters, those people will have no safe and comfortable place to stay, which is why we decided to make Nook To Nest.
What it does
Our website provides displaced people in cases of natural disasters with a map, showing the nearby locations of shelters in which they can stay at. We also have a chatbox, in which displaced people can find someone to talk to about their problems and get assistance.
How we built it
This project was created with Velo (Wix) and Google Map integration.
Challenges we ran into
A challenge we ran into was figuring out the Google Map integration and how we could show the shelters on our website.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of our project in general because this is our first hackathon, and we managed to create a website that can help solve a prevalent issue.
What we learned
We learned how to work with a deadline, teamwork, and also developed our skillset.
What's next for Nook to Nest
What we plan to do next after creating the Nook to Nest website is we can try to create an application that's able to be downloaded on Android and IOS, which has the same function, making it accessible to all users. We also plan to expand it from the United States to North America, and gradually to the entire world.
