Inspiration
Not only is Gas consumption/Carbon footprint a big deal these years, but in California, so is droughts. We've combined these elements for a basic water and gas usage logger. Our main inspiration for the layout comes from Samsung's step tracker, logging in selected time periods.
What it does
Nirux is an app that keeps track of your water and gas consumption; by making goals and providing tips, we can decrease our environmental impact. To put it into perspective, in 2023, about 40% of total U.S. natural gas consumption and 14% was from residential usage. As for water consumption, the average was 64 (cooler months) to 109 (summer months) gallons of water per person in 2016, where leaks comprise 13% of the total consumption.
How I built it
We build the app design utilizing Pixlr and Figma.
Challenges I ran into
The major challenge our group ran into was getting started and coming up with an idea, as well as having to learn Figma as we went.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We are proud of all of the feature ideas we have come up with, even if we were not able to implement all of them. We also take pride in the colors, icons, and logo, as we believe it is best fit for an app like this.
What I learned
Because we were still beginners at Figma, we actually learned a lot of basic and intermediate Figma skills. We've also explored the niches of water and gas usage to provide tips on how to help our planet.
What's next for Nirux
We would like to include more features like adding bill sections, family accounts, and more sectors.
