Inspiration

Homeowners often have little insight into how their energy is consumed across different appliances and machines. We wanted to bring the clarity and interactivity of network simulation tools, like Cisco Packet Tracer, to residential energy management. Our goal is to empower homeowners to understand, compare, and optimize their home energy usage in an intuitive, visual way.

What it does

NICE PowerTracer lets homeowners visualize their entire home energy grid and see how each appliance contributes to energy consumptions. It provides actionable insights for smarter energy decision, reducing waste, lowering costs, and planning for more sustainable energy usage.

How we built it

We leverage a seeed studio esp32 and seeed studio raspberry pi to capture real-time energy consumption and model it through interactive visualization next.js application. Additional technologies include C++ for the real time microcontroller code and get and post request for frequent energy measurements.

Challenges we ran into

Modeling energy consumption accurately for different appliances.

Designing a user interface that is both visually clear and easy for non-technical homeowners. Simulating multiple energy sources while keeping the system lightweight and responsive. Accomplishments that we're proud of A fully interactive home energy visualization platform. Real-time comparison of appliances and energy sources. An intuitive design that makes complex energy data accessible to homeowners.

What's next for NICE PowerTracer

Add support for dynamic pricing and cost optimization. Integrate additional smart home devices for real-time monitoring. Enable community-level energy comparisons for neighborhoods. Expand visualizations to include carbon footprint and sustainability metrics.
