Just as NGOs set out to initiate significant societal transformations with limited backing, individuals frequently encounter dilemmas in managing surplus personal items such as clothes and books. These items, still in usable condition, are regrettably discarded due to a lack of convenient donation channels.

Ngo Connect aims to resolve this disconnect by establishing a dynamic platform that facilitates direct connections between individuals eager to donate and NGOs in dire need of resources. Our platform leverages Geographic Information and AI algorithms using LargeLanguageModels and Generative Ai to recommend NGOs based on the user's location and the organization's need rating. This allows donors to efficiently find and support NGOs that match their interests, whether they are looking to donate old books, clothes, or other items. Furthermore, we recognize the power of community and shared interests in driving philanthropic efforts. To this end, ngoConnect introduces a feature that connects individuals to NGO communities, such as animal welfare groups, through communication channels like WhatsApp groups.

How We Built It

Our team utilized cutting-edge technologies, including large language models (LLMs) for efficient and intelligent system interactions. The core of NGOConnect's recommendation engine is powered by few-shot and zero-shot prompting techniques, enabling context-aware and semantically relevant search results. This is complemented by a sophisticated chatbot, developed using the GPT-3.5 Turbo API, designed from scratch to provide users with innovative fundraising ideas and facilitate effective communication between donors and NGOs.

Challenges We Ran Into

One of the major hurdles was integrating a user-friendly interface with the complex backend algorithms necessary for our recommender system. To address the issue of users being unfamiliar with prompt engineering, we experimented extensively with various prompts to develop a system capable of generating useful suggestions based on minimal user input. This approach ensures that NGOConnect is accessible and effective for all users, regardless of their technical expertise.
