Inspiration

Our inspiration came from our shared experiences with job hunting and the desire to streamline the process. After brainstorming ways to enhance the job application experience, we developed the idea of an AI-powered career assistant, designed to tailor resumes and cover letters while also saving previously viewed job listings.

What it does

Our web application leverages Gemini AI to power an intelligent career assistant that streamlines multiple aspects of the job application process. Some components include tailoring cover letters based on the user's resume and job description, enhancing resumes for better impact, and providing an intuitive UI for managing previously saved jobs, allowing users to track applications, rejections, and interview progress.

How we built it

We integrated Generative AI (Gemini) to power our tool, leveraging MongoDB for efficient database management and Auth0 for secure user authentication. Our application is built using Python for backend logic and HTML for the frontend interface.

Challenges we ran into

We encountered difficulties while leveraging Gemini, primarily due to incorrect usage of API keys. Integrating Auth0 also posed challenges, particularly in understanding the proper handling of secret API keys. Navigating these complexities required troubleshooting and refining our implementation to ensure seamless authentication and AI integration.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of using new tools that we haven't used before and building an application that can help so many users. We are also proud of the experience we gained working and researching as a team

What we learned

We learned how to integrate and work with new technologies, such as Gemini AI, MongoDB, and Auth0. Additionally, we gained valuable experience in troubleshooting API authentication issues, optimizing AI-driven content generation, and improving our teamwork and problem-solving skills throughout the development process.

What's next for NextGenHire

Moving forward, we plan to enhance our AI career assistant by improving resume and cover letter customization, incorporating job market insights, and adding features like interview preparation assistance.
