Inspiration

I got the inspiration from my friend, one of my friend who had issues with depression, I made this to help her so she can have a better time going through these hard times!

What it does

When you enter the website you can enter your phone number and then NEW HOPE will text you and you can start talking to him or just use his commands. You can read jokes, quotes, life advice, and many more things from NEW HOPE.

How we built it

We used python, flask, and Twilio to send the SMS, python for the backend, and flask for the front end. With help of Twilio, sending a command through SMS takes only a few seconds!

Challenges we ran into

one of the biggest challenges was hosting the app and this process took most of my time the other problem was the data type that we got from the SMS, the last problem was the phone number because it was a user input we can't be sure how they enter a phone number so I had to make the code recognize different types and add different things to it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

It was my first time using Twilio and I'm really happy that I got this code working in a matter of one day.

What we learned

I have learned how to use Twilio and how to host my flask app on repl.

What's next for New hope

My goal is to show this to other people who need it, I want to add real-time therapists so they can help people that need it just like my friend. I want people to access this service anywhere around the world!
