Inspiration
The inspiration for the new design was to display more information about the given project, with a hope of increasing engagement.
How it works
The new software thumbnails celebrate more of the software creators by using thumbnails as opposed to usernames, allowing users quicker access to the portfolios of the creators. In addition, engagement statistics (e.g. view, comment, and like counts) are visible allowing users to more easily see which projects are engaging.
Challenges we ran into
One of the challenges that we ran into was that the new thumbnail layout did not work as well on medium sized screens, between mobile and desktop sizes. Here is an example of what the thumbnail looked like when it got squished going from a large screen before adjusting to the layout for small screens:

We were able to fix this by creating a taller thumbnail as the width shrinks until the mobile layout kicks in, dropping the view count and other stats below the avatars.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud that I was able to make thumbnails look as lovely as the mockups provided, given that CSS is not something I spend much time focusing on.
