How it works

Inspiration

We were inspired by the need to promote more inclusive language and reduce gender bias in everyday communication.

What it does

Neutrally is a Chrome extension that spots gendered words in your writing and highlights them, allowing you to consider alternative phrasing and promoting more inclusive language.

How we built it

We used JavaScript and the Chrome Extension API to develop the extension.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was identifying and analyzing gender words accurately. We also had to ensure that the extension was easy to use and did not disrupt the user's workflow.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have developed a functional and user-friendly extension that addresses an important issue.

What we learned

We learned about the intricacies of language and how it can perpetuate bias. We also gained experience in developing Chrome extensions.

What's next for Neutrally

We plan to add more features, such as the ability to customize the sensitivity of the tool and provide more context for highlighted gender words. We also hope to expand the tool to other languages.
