Inspiration
The inspiration behind Neural Prof came from recognizing the immense potential of artificial intelligence and its impact on education. We were driven by the desire to create a platform that could leverage AI technologies to revolutionize tutoring and provide students with personalized and interactive learning experiences. Our team recognized that there was a serious need for more useful and diverse resources, especially for international students or groups that face accessibility issues. Thus, Neural Prof came to fruition!
What it does
Neural Prof is an innovative AI-powered tutoring platform that serves as a personal, expert tutor. All it needs it lecture slides or content, and within seconds it will create new learning material split into logical sections easy for students to digest. Students can also choose from several languages to receive the learning content in, including French, Chinese, German, and Japanese. Additionally, it offers personalized recommendations, real-time feedback, and on-demand assistance all with the press of a button. Neural Prof aims to enhance students' understanding, boost academic performance, and foster a love for learning.
How we built it
We used frameworks such as React, Chakra, and Tailwind to build the frontend, and worked with Python to perform API calls to GPT-4 and scrape the submitted files in order to send raw text.
Challenges we ran into
We faced a lot of issues with storing the data and ensuring working with the prompts to send to GPT. Additionally, since both of us aren't strong graphic designers, we had a hard time coming up with a theme and making the site look cohesive.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we were able to make a really cool project with a smaller team of two. It was definitely a great learning experience since we couldn't rely on other people, and both challenged ourselves by trying new things and moving outside our comfort zones. Additionally, we are super passionate about the idea and are happy that we got to execute it!
What we learned
Kaz -> working with Git in a team and gaining some more backend expertise Matthew -> learning more about Backend and how to use popular frameworks like Chakra and React
What's next for Neural Prof
We would love to keep working on this project and adding some more functionality, such as allowing users to select any language for the learning content to be produced in implementing user persistence so users can save their lessons and save conversations with their AI tutor. Additionally, we'd love to expand on the quiz functionality
