Inspiration
We lack control over the content that we're shown every day. A lot of it is not something we want to see and it can be damaging to our mental health. It's inarguably our most prized possession. It is the only force that drives us to innovate and create. It is about time we regain control over our mental health by standing up against the public content institutions like YouTube that have so much influence over us.
What it does
By incorporating Cohere we have managed to escape the limitations on the freedom of content set by self-serving companies. And the best part is YOU are in control. You have full transparency on what tags are getting inputted in your searches to alter the YouTube algorithm to your liking. Now you get to truly EXPLORE autonomously instead of looking at the derivative content that YouTube recommends.
How we built it
There are 3 major parts to this project:
The Front End: This was made with Flet. A cutting edge GUI that offers the user a seamless experience.
The Cohere AI: The data sent into the front end is passed through the AI to generate the search terms, interact with the user via chatbot, and screen for toxicity.
The Automation: This is where the dirty work takes place. The machine will go through the videos that the AI recognizes as ideal and like them to influence your feed on YouTube.
Challenges we ran into
Cohere clearly is the center of our application. During the finetuning process we ran into many unexplainable situations with the AI. However, we managed to come out of it like pioneers of a free internet.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Everyone we spoke to agreed with our vision towards being in charge of the content we consume. We couldn't have hoped for anything more. We were able to assemble a fully functioning python application in 36 hours, with technology we could have only dreamed of, which we are quite proud of.
What we learned
We learned to integrate cohere, selenium, and YouTube API into a python based application built with Flet. We're not masters by any means but we got a taste of becoming true software engineers for a weekend.
What's next for Nettoyer
Next, we will branch out to other social media platforms, like TikTok, on both web and mobile applications. The foundations we have laid here are easily scalable to any content consumer.
