Inspiration

We were inspired by our individual search for self improvement in the areas of physical and mental well being. Our team all had passions revolving around health and understood that beneficial habits are the only way to routinize a sustainable lifestyle built on increasing the quality of life. We stress the importance of being a part of a community that supports one another in creating the lifestyle they hope to achieve.

What it does

Drawing from a database of varying habits such as improvements in mental health, fitness, and nutrition, the user is able to select habits that are personalized to their intensity level, reaping benefits and intended lifestyle. After selecting a habit the user is able to begin the journey of improvement on their own or share the habit with their contacts through a personalized link, leading them to a messaging platform within the app. The user has the ability to track their daily habit by uploading an image within the HabitHub after completion. Within the GroupHub messaging page, the user can create a daily streak with their chosen contacts. Navika habit Navigation not only promotes ease in life changing holistic health improvements for the individual, the app builds off the principles of community and accountability.

How we built it

The frontend of the app was built using React Native and Expo. We used Firebase to build out our backend.

Challenges we ran into

Definitely one the challenges we ran into was idea formation. We spent a good chunk of time trying to find an idea that we all agreed on. Furthermore, we also had difficulty determining which features should be included or not. It was especially difficult to determine whether or not a feature could be developed in the limited amount of time we had available. On the technical side we only had two programmers since some of our planned team members dropped out last minute. We set an ambitious goal of writing a full-stack application using React Native despite one of our programmers having no React Native experience and the other having only limited experience with React Native. Another difficulty was that one of our team members got sick and was unable to help during the final stretch making it more difficult.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud of striving to complete a very ambitious task of building a product within a very short amount of time. Two of us were first timers to attending a hackathon therefore maintaining focus, calmness, and productivity was an accomplishment we are proud of.

What we learned

We learned that 36 hours is not enough time to create a perfect product with every functionality we’d hope to integrate. We learned how to use React-Native. We learned that the simpler the app, the more feasible it is to provide quality.

What's next for Navika

We would like to create a more intricate and interactive list of habits for users to customize. We hope to implement media outlets of videos, articles, and listing of benefits for each habit so the user is able to visualize the intended outcomes able to be reaped from repetitive completion.
