We were inspired by the common experience of walking alone late at night as female college students. We connected over the stark difference between walking in the Lehigh campus bubble and walking outside of university grounds. Walking outside at night on the streets of Bethlehem felt unsafe because we were unfamiliar with the surroundings and what circumstances could arise from being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Our solution to this issue is to create a map that tracks user-reported incidents in real-time. We designed a user interface for our mobile app solution using Figma to give women in a certain area the best route to get to their destination. When working on our demo, we found it difficult to implement features such as textbox inputs for user reports. This was due to lack of funding to purchase the Figma Professional Plan. There were also other features that we wanted to develop, such as a Night Mode for the map, which would alert trusted contacts about the user’s location via automated text, but could not be implemented due to time constraints.
