Inspiration

Made during the MLH Local Hack Day 2018, Kiel.

The application to program the display in the nametag was available for Windows systems only, so we reverse engineered the USB connection protocol and implemented it in a simpler way for use across different OSes(Linux, Windows and potentially MacOS).

I implemented the reverse-engineered protocol in Python, so we could send our own content to be displayed on the LED display. Since it was my first time sending raw packets through USB, I went through some initial hiccups but was eventually able to figure it out.

By the end of the day, the program was able to take any text, convert it into pixels and display on the nametag. I was also able to implement different animation methods available.

I also contributed in reverse-engineering the protocol but it was mainly Lars, who made strides in that direction.
