Inspiration

MyWayMap was born from the frustration of using fragmented travel tools that couldn't capture the soul of a destination. We envisioned a platform that goes beyond simple navigation - one that transforms every journey into an immersive storytelling experience, where buildings come alive in 3D and cities reveal their hidden histories through rich audio narratives.

What it does

MyWayMap is a comprehensive travel exploration platform that combines advanced 3D visualization with intelligent route planning and immersive storytelling. Users can explore countries and cities worldwide, visualize buildings and landmarks in photorealistic 3D, access real-time infrastructure data (hospitals, universities, airports), and experience rich audio-enhanced historical narratives. The platform features global address search, 360° street views, accessibility analysis, and smart route optimization.

How we built it

We built MyWayMap using React with TypeScript for a robust frontend, integrated with Google Maps APIs for 3D visualization and street view capabilities. The platform leverages multiple data sources including REST Countries API, OpenWeatherMap, and custom infrastructure databases. We implemented browser-based text-to-speech for audio storytelling, created modular components for scalability, and designed responsive interfaces with Tailwind CSS. We used Bolt.New for rapid prototyping of key UI components and interaction flows, allowing us to iterate quickly on user experience concepts before implementing them fully in code. The architecture supports real-time data integration and seamless 3D rendering.

Challenges we ran into

Integrating multiple mapping APIs while maintaining performance was complex, especially for 3D building visualization. Creating realistic audio storytelling required balancing technical implementation with engaging content. Managing state across multiple interactive components and ensuring responsive design for various screen sizes presented significant challenges. We also faced difficulties in optimizing loading times for data-heavy features like infrastructure analysis and street view integration.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully created a fully functional 3D building viewer with rotation capabilities, implemented comprehensive audio-enhanced storytelling for New York City with 8 historical chapters, built a global address search system covering buildings and world landmarks, and developed real-time infrastructure analysis with live data visualization. The platform seamlessly integrates multiple APIs while maintaining excellent user experience and responsive design across all devices.

What we learned

We gained deep insights into modern web development patterns, API integration strategies, and the importance of user-centered design in travel applications. Working with 3D visualization taught us about performance optimization and browser capabilities. We learned how to create engaging storytelling experiences through technology and discovered the complexity of building truly accessible, international applications that work across different cultures and languages.

What's next for MyWayMap

We plan to expand audio storytelling to 50+ major cities worldwide, implement AI-powered route recommendations based on user preferences, add collaborative trip planning features, integrate with booking platforms for seamless travel experiences, develop mobile applications for iOS and Android, implement offline functionality for international travelers, and create partnerships with tourism boards for exclusive content and local insights.
