Inspiration
The inspiration for this project was to help aid the transition from survival pandemic chef to a stable home chef.
What it does
This app is able to take recipes, ingredients and additional notes, storing them to then show you which recipes you have available to you with your current pantry. It also automatically updates your pantry after you decide to make a recipe, so that your pantry is always accurate. If the need arises to manually update your pantry, for example if something spoils, our app has that capability as well.
How we built it
We originally wrote the code in Java and created the UI separately, merging front end and back end at the end.
Challenges we ran into
Merging front end and back end became a significant challenge as we had to come to the realization that pure java is quite different than android studios java. Also, anything to do with the app itself front end was completely new to us as none of us had any experience with creating apps or android studio.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Going from zero knowledge with android studios to creating an app that functions and looks professional. Overall, creating a fully functional app with extensive features that allow us to exceed our initial goals
What we learned
Android studio, merging front end and back end, and how to deliver a mobile app.
What's next for MyPantry
Adding dietary attributes, discerning between needed core ingredients and optional ingredients for recipes, so as to not make it such a strict binary, and general improvements to the UI.
