Inspiration
Before I transferred to UB, I spent 2.5 years pursuing education to become a Physician Assistant. During my time in medicine, I spent a lot of time with patients and learned a lot about clinical labs and medicine. I wanted this calculator to be accessible to patients to help educate themselves on their cardiovascular health.
What it does
The calculator takes lab information from the user and outputs their 10 year risk for a cardiac event, like myocardial infarctions.
How we built it
I build this webapp using Flask, Python, HTML/CSS/JS, and Bootstrap
Challenges we ran into
This was my first time implementing the frontend of a website, as such, I had trouble working with Bootstrap and HTML to create a webpage that was accessible and easy to read.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This is a personal project that I have thought about doing for quite some time, about 2 years, since I was in PA school. I'm proud of myself for pursuing a project idea that I'm passionate about, and I'm even more proud that it was implemented well.
What we learned
I sharpened my skills with Flask and overall web backend development.
