Briefly describe your project in relation to the design prompt (200 words max)
For our project, we chose to create an app for the Intuit track. As a result, our goal was to design an experience that allows students to effectively create, share, and refine budgeting plans in order to obtain feedback from peers and financial advisors. We accomplished this by developing features that allow users to track their expenses and subscriptions, create budget plans, receive advice from financial advisors, and track progress all while building better spending habits. Additionally, we named the app “mula” as a fun play on the word “moolah”, a colloquial term for money, as a way to appeal to the target users of college aged students.
Describe your main design decisions and how they contribute to your project (300 words max)
-App name: We chose the name “mula” because it’s a fun twist on the commonly used term for money “moolah”. After we settled on the app name, every other design decision was also informed and inspired by this name, as well as our desire to spread awareness about good spending habits to college students. -Our mascot: For our app icon/mascot, we chose a cow as a nod to our app’s namesake. It serves as a cute reminder/milestone of when a student successfully hits their spending or saving goals, effectively marking their progress. -Color scheme: For our color scheme, we chose blue and green as our primary colors because they naturally evoke a sense of calm, trust, and growth—qualities that align perfectly with the goals of financial responsibility and planning. Blue is often associated with stability and reliability, reinforcing a feeling of security in tracking and managing money. Green, on the other hand, universally represents growth and balance, subtly encouraging users to think of their finances in a positive and constructive way. Together, these colors create an approachable, user-friendly atmosphere for students. -What are “herds”? Herds are communities that the user can form with their friends. Think of it like a group chat for reaching saving goals, where users can also form herds with each other to collectively plan and save for trips.
