Inspiration

We chose the first problem relating to climate change. We chose this problem because of the increasing threat that rising carbon emissions pose to climate change and we often forget that travelling from one place to another impacts the environment around us. This is why we created movegreen: an app that allows travellers and tourists to connect with one another while being conscious of their own carbon footprint.

What it does

You can track your destinations as some sort of travel logbook, and connect with your friends to see where they have been too! Most importantly you can see your impact on the environment through the mode of transportation you took on your trip. A feature that is implemented in our app is a leaderboard/ranking system. The leaderboard allows others to see how they compare with others in terms of their carbon footprint. The lower one’s carbon footprint score is, the better. Points are assigned depending on your mode of transportation, and further information on the rating system is outlined on the app in ‘information’, or the ‘i’ icon.

what we learned and challenges we faced

We learned many things this past day while working on this app. We faced many challenges from discovering new features on Figma, as most of us were fairly new to the platform, to also developing our idea and bringing it to life. While facing these challenges we learned many things including new skills in user flow, developing user empathy and user interface design, but most importantly we learned about collaboration. We faced a couple of difficulties when trying to understand others’ ideas, but we were able to develop important communication skills. We all worked collaboratively on the design of the app through screen sharing, calling online, and the cloud-based platform Figma.
