Our Story
In today's fast-paced world, us teenagers have a lot to juggle, like school, extracurriculars, hobbies, etc. This can lead to a lot of stress, which can result in anxiety or even depression. But it's 2025, and we know this already! We're told to practice "self-care", through habits like meditation, yoga, and most of all, journaling. However, trying to fit any of these into our already packed schedule can just feel like an extra chore instead of mindful reflection. Many teens simply don't have the time or patience to commit to writing lengthy journal entries consistently. In my own experience, I used to keep a journal that I would write in everyday, because I liked to see the progress I made over the months, and the thoughts I wrote down. However, as the school year becomes busier, I found myself too tired at the end of the day to sit down and write about my feelings.
Our Solution: MoodBrew
Stay in touch with your emotions in a simple and creative way with MoodBrew! This easy-to-use app lets you track your daily mood with just a few taps, making it perfect for teenagers who want to reflect on their day without the pressure of a lengthy journal entry.
How does it work?
In essence, MoodBrew gives teens the tools to engage in the benefits of healthy habits like journaling, mindfulness, and emotional reflection, but in a way that’s manageable, easy to integrate into their day, and perfectly tailored to the challenges of their busy lives. It’s a small commitment with big rewards for mental well-being.
- First, enter a few details. These will help make your experience more personalized!
- Select your "brew". You'll be prompted to choose a brew based on how you're feeling. The colors help you quickly express how you feel in a visual way, without needing to overthink it.
- Write a quick entry. This can be a simple note about why you feel the way you do or any events that shaped your mood that day. It’s not about writing a novel, but about expressing your thoughts or reflecting on your day. It could be just a sentence or two—whatever feels right for you.
- Track your progress. As you continue using MoodBrew, your moods will be displayed. Are there certain days when you're more stressed or happier? This can give you insights into your emotional triggers and help you manage your mental health better.
Challenges we ran into
One problem we ran into was deciding how we want to display the moods tracked. We went back and forth between displaying them by week, month, and year, until we finally landed on a format that we're happy with.
