What it does
MISSILE TONE is a 3-minute satirical anti-war short film created entirely with AI tools. It tells the story of a mother and daughter trapped in a luxurious underground bunker, waiting for a war that never happened. As one of them begins to question the official narrative, the film explores curated fear, obedience, and the illusion of safety — all through a hyper-stylized, cinematic lens inspired by Old Hollywood glamour.
How we built it
The entire production was built using a custom AI film workflow:
- Pixverse, Hailuo AI: for scene generation and motion
- Midjourney and Sora: for visual concept art and character/world design
- Hedra and Elevenlabs: for voice-over dubbing and emotional tone
- ChatGPT (Markdown + Script Tools): for story development, dialogue, scene structuring, and visual continuity
The film was planned like a real production: with a full storyboard, shot list, voice direction, and sound design strategy — all AI-generated and refined iteratively.
Challenges we ran into
- Visual consistency: Maintaining character identity and scene cohesion across AI outputs
- Narrative clarity: Balancing symbolism with simplicity to ensure emotional accessibility in a 3-minute format
- Tone control: Avoiding overly literal dystopian tropes in favor of restraint and satire
- Production design: Guiding the AI to render Old Hollywood aesthetics with post-digital irony without slipping into cliché
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Built a fully AI-driven cinematic narrative with clear visual and emotional impact
- Delivered a conceptually sharp anti-war message in a short runtime
- Created an original visual language that merges satire, silence, and cinematic elegance
- Submitted the film to IFFR 2025, and WSXA x Hailuo AI Film Competition
- Developed a flexible production pipeline that can scale for future AI cinema projects
What we learned
- AI can be more than a tool, it can be a mirror.
- Narrative pacing is just as important in AI film as in traditional cinema
- Simplicity in structure creates space for complexity in theme
- Working with AI requires creative restraint, not just experimentation
What’s next for *MISSILE TONE*
- Festival circuit: Submitted to IFFR, Cannes Film Festival, and other experimental/AI festivals
- Expanded version: Developing a longer episodic format that continues the world of MISSILE TONE
- Interactive installation: Exploring the film as a VR or immersive experience using AI-driven narrative paths
- Educational talks: Using the film in workshops on AI, storytelling, and digital aesthetics
