An elegant and fluid mobile app built in Flutter that allows communities to easily organize volunteer events and find volunteer opportunities. The native code supports both Android and IOS devices. It maintains a sleek aesthetic throughout with a user-friendly UI that is simple to navigate.
The ultimate goal of Better World is to easily connect prospective volunteers to events and opportunities within the local community. We wish to enable and bring the best out of people by making community volunteering as easy as possible.
Unlike other solutions, our signup system is simple. We present users with various local events sorted into categories. Users can then browse through cards and open event pages that have all the essential info. This includes event overview, hosting organization, date+time, and requirements. Then comes the simple sign up button that generates an email, notifying the orgs of user signup.
Despite having two high schoolers and two UMN freshman, we built the project in modular steps, working side by side to complete backend and frontend, and then collaborating extensively to integrate the two.
For 3 of the 4 members, a challenge we faced was learning a new language (Flutter/Dart) under an encouraging time constraint. Everyone was work on different development platforms, but we were able to make it work.
