The miners are looking for diamonds. But "he" is looking for miners.

Inspiration

We took inspiration from the many cooperative board and video games we've played as a group. Some of the most chaos-inducing mechanics we've experienced are limited communication and shared controls, so we decided: why not both?

What it does

Two players work together to control two in-game characters, each player sharing one half of the controls. They must cooperate to get both miners out of their cave, managing oxygen and avoiding the perils of the cavern.

How we built it

We used pygame to build the entire game. For the pixel art, it was all made from scratch.

Challenges we ran into

We wanted to make sure our game would scale past what we were able to work on, so making a modular board was a goal of ours, and something that gave us some trouble initially in pygame. We also faced some difficulty implementing a controller in addition to using keyboard controls. Something we struggled with was adding an enemy that would chase the miners around after the pressure plates have been activated.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This was all of our first times using pygame, so we feel like we achieved a lot for our level of experience with it.

What we learned

We learned how to create efficient data structures to represent our tiles and the way the characters can move.

What's next for Miner Issues

Fully automated level generation, unique abilities for each of our miners, and even more cute pixel art!
