Inspiration

"I’m okay." But we all know — sometimes, that’s not true.

Every year, millions of students struggle silently with stress, anxiety, and burnout. They push through exams, deadlines, and expectations — but rarely talk about how they truly feel.

MindMend was born from one simple idea: What if every student had a quiet, safe space to say, “Today, I’m not okay” — without fear, judgment, or pressure?

We wanted to build a tool that doesn’t fix anything… It just sees you.

What it does

MindMend is a gentle, private daily check-in bot for students.

🎯 With one click, you choose how you’re feeling — from 😊 to 😰 💬 Get kind, personalized self-care tips: “Try a 5-minute walk.” 📊 Visualize your mood trends over time (without any login) 🛡️ All data stays on your device — no tracking, no cloud, no risk It’s not therapy. It’s a moment of kindness in your day.

How we built it

Using only HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, we created a lightweight, responsive web app that works instantly — no backend, no login, no friction.

✅ Designed a calming UI with soft gradients, rounded corners, and micro-interactions ✅ Used localStorage to save mood history locally ✅ Integrated Chart.js to visualize mood trends (last 7 days) ✅ Built a simple, emotional voiceover script for the demo video ✅ Deployed live using Vercel — so judges can try it right away All built in under 2days — by one passionate student

Challenges we ran into

Making it feel "safe" – We wanted MindMend to feel warm, not clinical. → Solution: Soft colors, gentle language, and no pressure to share. Getting animations to work smoothly – Early versions lagged on mobile. → Solution: Simplified transitions, used cubic-bezier for natural motion. Voiceover timing – Matching speech to screen actions took 3 tries. → Solution: Used a timer + practiced pacing slowly. No backend? No problem! – We didn’t want to complicate things. → Solution: Local storage + offline-first design = privacy + simplicity.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

✅ Built a fully functional, beautiful app with just vanilla web tech ✅ Created a calming, emotionally intelligent experience — even without AI ✅ Made privacy central — no data leaves the user’s device ✅ Got a live, deployable site in under a week ✅ Proved that small projects can have big hearts This isn’t just code — it’s a digital hug.

What we learned

❤️ Empathy is the most powerful feature — even in tech. 🧠 Simplicity beats complexity — less code, more meaning. 🌐 A single button can change someone’s day. 📱 The best apps don’t solve problems — they make people feel seen. 🚀 You don’t need a team, fancy tools, or money — just passion.

What's next for MindMend

We’re just getting started:

Add voice input – Say “I’m overwhelmed” → get instant breathing tips Integrate with school wellness programs – Anonymous trend reports to counselors Add guided mini-meditations (5-min audio sessions) Mobile app version (using Capacitor or Flutter) Multilingual support – Help students around the world Offline mode – Work even without internet One day, MindMend could be part of every student’s routine — not because it’s flashy, but because it says: “You matter. You’re not alone.”
