💡 Inspiration MigraineMinder is an intelligent migraine management assistant that bridges neurotechnology with environmental control. Inspired by a teammate’s grandmother who suffers from chronic migraines, our goal was to create a system that reacts faster than a person can — detecting early signs of migraine and calming the environment before the pain intensifies.

🧠 What It Does Using the Muse 2 EEG headband, MigraineMinder collects real-time brain and physiological data like stress levels, focus drops, and EEG irregularities. A CNN1D deep learning model analyzes these signals to predict migraine stages (non-ictal, pre-ictal, ictal). When a possible migraine is detected, the system automatically dims lights, displays alerts on an OLED screen, and logs data to the dashboard — helping users take preventive action early.

🛠️ How We Built It We used Python and the Muse SDK for EEG processing, Flask for backend communication, and Arduino to control lighting and sensors. The system integrates EEG, GSR, and ambient light data for accurate responses, with results visualized in a clean dashboard for real-time monitoring.

⚙️ Challenges We Ran Into Synchronizing live EEG data with hardware control while reducing false detections was tough. Debugging endless data streams and balancing sensitivity with stability wasn’t easy — but seeing our prototype respond to brain signals and adjust the environment in real time made it all worth it.

🏆 Accomplishments We’re Proud Of We successfully created a real-time EEG-to-environment feedback loop and a fully functional dashboard that visualizes migraine trends. The prototype works on a small scale and proves that the concept is both practical and impactful.

💭 What We Learned We learned that empathy-driven innovation can merge neuroscience and technology in meaningful ways. Understanding how real people experience migraines helped shape a design that’s both human and scientific.

🚀 What’s Next We plan to train our model on larger, more diverse EEG datasets and expand MigraineMinder into a smart-home ecosystem — integrating with Alexa and Philips Hue to make migraine prevention seamless, keeping users comfortable, focused, and pain-free.

❤️ MigraineMinder doesn’t just respond to pain — it helps prevent it by listening to your brain before the migraine begins.
