Inspiration
Our team's knowledge of energy systems was diverse, but we all had the knowlegde needed to build a simulator. We were also inspired by GE Vernova's presentation of a simulator En-ROADS.
What it does
Simulates a realistic Microgrid over time under variable conditions. You can adjust sliders for Battery reserve target, Battery charge target, Grid energy sell threshold and Grid energy buy threshold, and see if the grid loses or gains revenue, among other features.
How we built it
Utilization of Python, with extensions such as matplotlib.
Challenges we ran into
Simulation is not fully accurate, and we had difficulty implementing more advanced features we discussed, however we changed the project to be usable in a slightly lower state,
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The completion of this project! Having a working simulator after constructing it these past days.
What we learned
We learned more about microgrid operation, but also how simulators work, accuracy thresholds, etc.
What's next for Microgrid Simulation
Implementing the more advanced features to make it an even more usable product.
