Inspiration

During our early discussions, we toyed with the idea of building a home management app. The app addresses the struggles of communicating and sharing essential information among household members, whether they are family or friends. It becomes challenging to keep track of who does what and when.

What it does

miCasa is a home management app designed for families, roommates, shared living communities, and anyone seeking a more organized and harmonious household. It features shared grocery lists, allowing members to create, edit, and update their lists in real time. This helps avoid duplicate purchases and forgetful trips. The app provides a centralized platform to keep members in sync and simplifies essential tasks such as assigning, tracking, and completing chores. It also helps manage bills and shared expenses. miCasa offers a simple solution for seamless collaboration.

How we built it

We built our web app using C# in Visual Studio. We worked together to develop the core authorization functionality of the app and created a SQL database structure to connect to it. We attempted to set up a local network to test the web app directly on the site, but encountered challenges with the network. Additionally, we created a demo in Figma to prototype the user experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are most proud of how the prototype came together and the efforts we made to build a React app.

What we learned

Building an app is a more challenging task than it initially appears. Web technology, while "easy" in some respects, is complex and requires understanding many interconnected components. This experience has reinvigorated our inspiration to learn more.

What's next for miCasa

Our next steps involve refining the user interface and implementing more robust applications of the current features. We plan to rebuild the app's base structure to include database and authentication by default, in order to avoid repeating previous pitfalls.
