Inspiration

More than 1 in 5 New Yorkers displays symptoms of a mental disorder every year. Poor mental health seriously worsens a person's relationships, work, and education. In order to contribute to the availability of mental health services in New York City, I'm making this map that lays out all of the mental health services that are available throughout the city.

What it does

Using HTML, CSS, JS, LeafletJS, and NYC's Open Data catalog's API, I've created a map that displays the locations of over 400 reported mental health services within the city. Users are able to search for specific services/organizations and the website offers a breakdown of the services located across the five boroughs. When a marker is clicked, the map displays information such as the service's phone number, website, street address, and its official name.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I keep getting better with LeafletJS and am learning how to work with large amounts of data with hundreds of rows or more, and each new project is a new iteration of improvement with my web development and data skills.

What's next for mhguard

Can be scaled to more areas around the US, most likely Los Angeles, CA next.
