MHacks 2016 - MedTracker
Patients not taking their medication is a serious issue. It costs approximately $300 billion per year, leads to approximately 125,000 deaths, and leaves plenty more in the hospital [1]. In order to help the forgetful and/or non-independent patient take their medication, we have designed an Android application that a doctor can use to set up a regimen for a patient to take their medication: explicitly saying quantity, the name, etc. In the event the patient forgets, the doctor and In-case-of-emergency contacts that the person is not taking their prescribed medication via text even if the phone is away and asleep. Depending on how vital the medication is to the patient, the app will take more extreme measures to assure the patient is okay and alert more than one person.
