Inspiration
While in recent years Mental Health care has become more widespread, it is still unaccesible for a lot of people, from lack on information to lack of funding to get proper care, most people are unable to get the support they need, that's when Mentalinks comes in. Mentalink will help people connect minds, bridge gaps, and help people who are unable to afford the care they need. The project is based on crowdfunding, where every single cent that is donated goes directly to link people to mental health professionals, giving them, at the very least, one month of sessions, medication or anything else they may need regarding their mental health.
What it does
People can sign up to join a queue to link them to a mental health professionals and get the medical attention they need completely for free. Donors can enter to our website to pledge to their heart's content, funding sessions with mental Health professionals. Psychologists and therapist can partner with our programs to link them to patients, the session being paid by the crowdfunding.
How we built it
We created a page using html, javascript, and css. We have a database created in sql server and we run it in azure.
On a conceptual level, it was built around our own values, focusing on compassion, inclusivity, collaboration, accountability, empathy and innovation.
Challenges we ran into
This was the first hackaton experience for some memebers of our team. We also faced time management problems regarding the scope of our project, as we got very ambitious at times, but we managed to pull through.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of completing the project with most of the functionalities we planned, and we're very happy we made it to the end too. We're very hopeful that this project may help a lot of people.
What we learned
We learned a lot about everything, ranging from web design, UI design, cloud services, and in general how a web page works. We also improved our time management, teamwork and communication skills.
What's next for Mentalink
We want to keep polishing the project and maybe someday be able to launch it and help peoples. We also want to expand our influence, because as of right now our prototype is planned for regional reach. but we want to help people all around the globe.
