Inspiration

We were inspired by our interest in sports and healthy living. We wanted to create a project that magnified our interests while also being related to us and our main objective. Our project, Messi Vision, revolved around making an innovation or process much more accessible and easy for people who cannot afford real coaching. Combining these ideas, we created an AI soccer coach and customized soccer cleats that help the user improve and learn more about soccer.

What it does

Our project has two portions: the first portion involves a website that acts like a personal AI coach that helps strategize and make plays for the user and the gadget, "Golden Foot" is the second portion that enhances the player's practicing capacity. If they cannot find a coach/mentor/trainer, they can use our website in place for when a real money-demanding coach is needed. It can also provide the user with personal statistics like the speed of the kick and the strength of the kick or the contact point using Golden Foot. With our project, we aim to assist those interested in expanding their skill set in soccer in restricting situations, as long as they have the spirit to improve.

How we built it

We built the website portion using HTML and CSS with TensorFlow to help track the player's position or the speed of the ball. We used circuits, breadboard, and Arduino to build the gadget part of Messi Vision. Making our vision board only required some paint, markers, and an artist.

Challenges we ran into

In the middle of the fabrication process of our plan, we reached a roadblock in calculating the speed of the object since it was hard to do only knowing the 2D dimensions of the ball from a camera. When constructing Golden Foot, one of our team members had trouble figuring out the wiring which was also a minor setback. We also took a big step back and looked at our overall project idea which we realized needed more work and uniqueness to reach our standards of a good project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

To overcome our challenges, we brainstormed and discussed as a team while not hesitating to ask for assistance. We were proud to settle with a final solution for a project that we thought could benefit people. Having our individual roles in the group, we were able to each play a part in creating a project while collaborating with each other to solve problems.

What we learned

Since each of us had individual sections in contributing to the final design project, some of us had to learn HTML and CSS from scratch which had been difficult and rewarding. Some of us had to delve into the foreign world of circuits engineering which was a big part of constructing Golden Foot. We were reminded that collaboration is important, especially with a project this size, so it would have to take a lot of organized time and effort into getting our end results.

What's next for Messi Vision

For Messi Vision, we would want to make the gadget more compact and sleek since we had limited time building it, we could use this time after the hackathon to better this hardware design. For the online AI coach, if it was more interactive and the coach could be designed better than reality, it would provide new chances for the soccer revolution. like pregame strategizing, trajectory calculation, encouragement, or some sort of tired fatigue tracker that would help switch out team members, then it would better simulate efficient gameplay and practice.
