Inspiration

We were inspired to create our project of a MESA Connector when we initially realized that many of us had no clue about the other schools and students participating in MESA. Some students needed more clarity, help, and instruction on their MESA projects because each school only has one MESA advisor. Therefore, we were inspired to create a website where students across California could engage and socialize with other MESA students, and receive all the help they need in completing their competitions.

What it does

Our website works as a place for students to have the opportunity to connect with other students within the MESA community in the state and in neighboring schools. From there, they can play interactive games together. Students can also get assistance and instructional help from mentors during competitions through messaging chats.

How we built it

We made some mockups using Google Sites. In That Google Sites, you can play games among other MESA Students, and message MESA mentors.

Challenges we ran into

Some Challenges we ran into during the process were building the actual mockup and thinking of the final idea. We had some ideas and it was really hard to narrow them to one.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

In the span of our whole hackathon, we accomplished many things. We were able to brainstorm ideas for our prototype. In building our prototype we were able to create a website that allows its users, MESA members, to communicate and build stronger connections with members in other schools by having the ability to send messages to one another, and have access to contacting mentors when to help aid confusion during competitions. Games related to completions such as moonbase, glider, prosthetic arm, and more can also be found on the website for students to enjoy.

What we learned

We learned how to create a website with Google sites that could benefit the current Mesa program. As a team, we learned how to divide complex tasks into different parts, and how to manage time due to the time constraints we weren’t able to achieve every idea and goal that we had in mind for our website. So, in the future, we would like to add a few more features and make additional changes. We would first like to go more in-depth with what MESA does and expand on past competitions with images. Having writing transcripts for MESA videos that students can read is also something we would like to add. We would also like to implement additional games glider-taking inspiration from competitions for MESA members to enjoy and learn from.
