Inspiration
Even as many colleges move towards developing on-campus mentorship programs, students often lack guidance in specified areas of interest, such as their desired field, campus involvement, or study abroad opportunities. We wanted to create a solution to connect college students directly with peers with whom they can share interests and experiences.
What it does
MentorMatchr enables users to match and connect with peers on their campus looking for a complementary mentoring relationship based off of user interests, experiences, and skills.
How we built it
We built our application using local hosting on Cloud9 with Node.js and a front-end styled with Materialize.
Challenges we ran into
Along the way, we faced challenges implementing our initial user interface vision. However, we were able to swiftly pivot to a new design to better realize our solution.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our team's ability to play to each member's strengths.
What we learned
We gained experience with new languages, frameworks, and web development tools including Node.js and Materialize.
What's next for MentorMatchr
Next, we plan to test MentorMatchr on the Rollins College campus and improve upon our application based off of user feedback.
