Inspiration
Our inspiration is to preserve the memories and souvenirs of the past using a traditional method of burying time capsules – but with a digital twist.
What it does
Our application allows users to upload pictures to our time capsule (database), in which those images would be reshared via email when the date specified by the user is reached. It will send a personalized message and photo to the user on the date.
How we built it
We used HTML, CSS and JavaScript to code our website while utilizing ChatGPT and Phind to create our website. To automate the process of sending emails based on time, we used AppScript via Google Sheets.
Challenges we ran into
- Connecting our frontend Code to our backend AppScript
- Ensuring the images were sent properly and navigation permissions for our database
- As of now, the backend functionality is not fully automated
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of utilizing Appscript for automation, as it was a new language we had to learn about in a short amount of time. We’re also proud of the front-end UI design of our website.
What we learned
While we managed to code most of our product, our team has learned many things. There is definitely more to creating websites using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The devs of our team took the initiative to add a database and use AppScript to create custom code functionality for our Google Sheets.
What's Next for Memory Lane
- Connecting it to an API database to handle a longer list of users
- Allow users to submit multiple images as well as video files
- Creating a mobile app for a wider audience reach
- Include user base interactions (sending capsules to other people, uploading images in a collaborative fashion, etc.)
- Hire more devs and managers to ensure that future functionalities can be created in a timely and cost-sufficient manner
