Inspiration
We were inspired by the fact that individuals, such as ourselves, face so many challenges regarding healthcare and how to navigate through it with the confusion of expenses. There is a lack of education when it comes to budgeting healthcare and the finances behind it which motivated us to create this platform. A website like this can not only help with personal financial issues regarding healthcare but also serve as an education resource to empower users.
What it does
Our platform provides a friendly chatbot, Ivy, for all users for any questions or concerns they have. Simply type any questions or comments in the chatbox regarding finance related healthcare and you will be provided a swift and descriptive answer. Also, we provided different comparisons for the costs, content, and producers of different over the counter medicines in order for users to make the healthiest and smartest descions when it comes to budgeting.
How we built it
We used data sets off of Kaggle in order to obtain the information about names, content, and prices of medicine. Also, we used an API in order to fully function the chatbot to interact with users in an efficient and informative way. With these resources, we successfully were able to create a functional platform that users can operate in order to make smart desicions regarding healthcare finance.
Challenges we ran into
Finding free API's to match what we need in our platform was a huge hinderance in satisfying our code. Another challenge we ran into was the fact that we are a two-man team that created an ambitious project with only a few mere hours left. These challeneges, although rigorous, were what made this hackathon so exciting.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to create a fully funtion chat bot in only a few hours that can fully respond to the user's questions regarding to financial healthcare. With all the complications, we are also proud that we found the time to be able to create a semi-pleasing UI as well.
What we learned
We learned not to be as ambitious as with only a two member team, there were a lot of features we were not able to implement that we initially brainstormed.
What's next for Medsight Finance
Our website is a mere prototype, but there is so much potential to expand what it can do. We can add more features onto Medsight Finance such as community forums for users to share their own personalized experience or have financial calendars/planning options. And if we were to publish this to the public, we truly believe our platform would garner many users (after some more fine-tuning) because people can use it to access quick, useful information regarding their own personalized healthcare financial needs.
