Medical Wallet was created as we looked to make progress towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Medical Wallet is a blockchain-powered platform developed by our team including Dane Van Horn, Rohan Rajesh, and Andrew Sotell. The platform enables patients, especially in underserved communities, to control their medical records, allowing providers and EMTs to access critical data instantly and transparently. The market landscape shows an increasing demand for secure medical data services and the use of blockchain-based solutions, with many patients lacking agency over their healthcare data. Regulatory emphasis on security and privacy further underscores the need for such a solution. The presentation emphasizes that less than 15% of EMS encounters currently use digital media, DC EMS standard response time is 9 minutes, and longer response times occur in low-income communities, with 8% of the US population lacking health insurance. Medical Wallet addresses these issues by offering a patient portal to access and manage medical records securely, a provider portal for healthcare providers to view and update patient records, and an EMS portal for quick access to vital patient information in emergencies. The platform leverages blockchain technology to provide a transparent ledger tracking all actions related to medical data and offers temporary access tokens for healthcare providers and emergency responders. Medical Wallet aligns with several SDGs, including SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). The platform is designed for emergency situations, allowing the transfer of medical data when the patient is unconscious, and for non-emergency data sharing, providing temporary access to medical professionals. The goal of Medical Wallet is to empower patients, enhance emergency care, and improve health equity, particularly in underserved communities, by leveraging blockchain technology to secure and manage medical data effectively.
