Inspiration
As both computer science and pre-medical students, we are passionate about using technology to improve the medical industry. We realized that there is a huge gap in communication between EMS and hospitals: EMTs are not given any information about patients beforehand as they are providing care, and hospitals are not properly informed about incoming emergency physicians. Angelica is actually an EMT and who has experienced this gap first-hand - it is extremely detrimental to patient care. We are solving this issue by building a platform that seamlessly connects EMTs and hospitals.
What it does
Our app allows hospitals & EMTs to chat with each other, share medical information about the patient to each other digitally, and allows hospitals to track upcoming ambulances. We have two portals: one for ambulances, and one for EMTs.
How we built it
We built it using React, Tailwind, Vite, and MongoDB. We coded primarily in Typescript.
Challenges we ran into
We spent a lot of time ideating & designing, which slowed us down a bit. However, it helped us build a strong foundation.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're really proud of our UI & our idea. It is something that is desperately needed by emergency care physicians today, and we were able to make the platform look very visually appealing.
What we learned
We learned how to use Tailwind & Vite. We also learned how to integrate Google Maps in React.
What's next for MedHelp
1) We will build sensors that EMTs can use to obtain patient vitals. The sensors will then directly communicate patient vitals to hospitals without EMTs needing to manually input information. 2) We will implement better tracking functionalities to our GPS navigation system.
