Inspiration

I have personally experienced the frustration of dealing with a broken healthcare system. I saw a specialist that gave me bad information early on, which led to me being referred to other specialists unnecessarily. It resulted in wasted time and money for everyone and I can tell that this is only one part of a deeply flawed system.

What it does

It provides a platform for Primary Care Physicians and Specialists or other healthcare providers to consult in real time with the patient present. Through this pre-screening process, the PCP can assist with basic exams, ordering diagnostic tests, and determine if the patient should see the specialist in person.

This saves time in appointments and scheduling and reduces unnecessary appointments. It also reduces the amount of paperwork required and less administrative costs.

We should aim to reduce unnecessary straps for our doctors so they can spend less time doing paperwork and more time helping people. MedCollab aims to flatten the inefficient hierarchy of the outpatient healthcare system.

How we built it

I built it on the website https://bubble.io/home

Challenges we ran into

I currently have laryngitis from a cold so getting through the presentation without coughing or clearing my throat was difficult. I would have liked to have added more content to the website, but I wanted to make sure I had enough time to do the post correctly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I came across this Hackathon last night randomly and I just wanted to participate, even though I didn't have a team. I am a beginner so completing a project from start to finish by myself was very rewarding. I am also not a CIS major, I just attended my first Hackathon a few weeks ago and this demonstrated how much I was able to learn from that one experience. In a world of never-ending school work, it was nice to work on something that had a beginning, middle and an end. I feel accomplished.

What we learned

I had to get creative with the submission. I used Zoom to record two parts of the presentation and iMovie to edit the clips. This was my first experience video editing and my Trash bin is now filled with failed .mp4 files.

What's next for MedCollab

Not sure. It was a very fun and exciting experience for me personally and I am looking forward to receiving feedback. I could foresee adding more elements to the website, such as a more detailed patient history and perhaps AI to assist with the diagnostic process. It would be nice to have a shared information system so patient records do not have to be duplicated.
