The Inspiration

Conceptualizing dimensions like a 50m rollercoaster or the 932ft Atlanta Bank Of America Plaza is difficult. Using real-life examples as a reference makes visualizing dimensions easier. Bridging the gap between numbers and reality, we built MeasureMash, an iOS app that employs AR to bring hard-to-comprehend measurements to life.

The Product

Current AR measurement algorithms use ray-casting to anchor measurement points on planes, meaning creating anchors on large distances or irregular surfaces is often impossible. We used motion tracking to bypass these limitations, allowing users to anchor points regardless of the length and surface. Users can tap anywhere in the camera to place an anchor, and the pixels around it are used to track the anchor's position. Users can then choose from our catalog of 3D models representing familiar objects to visualize the distance between the anchors.

The Importance

Using innovative solutions, MeasureMash can provide valuable insights to a user’s surroundings, transforming their grasp of the space they’re in.
