Inspiration

We noticed that college students were not taking care of themselves to the extent they should be. With the pressure of grades, internships, and more, students don’t have time to focus on their nutrients. We wanted to create a convenient way for students to understand their eating habits and make sure they’re getting balanced meals, so they can take care of themselves to the best of their ability.

What it does

The app promotes consistency with meals, using an achievement system that encourages healthy eating habits and meeting health goals. By inputting their school, students can track their meal swipes quantity and generate meal plans that match their food preferences and dining hall menus

How we built it

We approached MealQuest with a focus on user experience. For the frontend, we built a mobile-friendly interface using Figma with a clean UI so it would not overwhelm the students. We used React to build the core application and user interface. We also leveraged Figma’s tools to pull our design elements and prototype data into the codebase.

Challenges we ran into

We struggled to find the right platform to create MealQuest as there were many options available. To make sure we used the best platform, we narrowed down our top five options and took our time looking through them to see what kind of features they offered. After comparing them, we decided Figma was the best platform to support our vision.

What we learned

Through this project, we learned to consider user experience, developing an interface that provided the user with many easy-to-use features. We did this by brainstorming many different features that we could implement and narrowing it down to maintain a simple, yet comprehensive interface.

What's next for MealQuest

With more development, we would improve the meal logging feature with more accurate identification and updated nutrition facts. We would also expand the app to include more universities and connect to their menus through platforms like Nutrislice and Food Pro. Finally, we want to connect with organizations or local restaurants to turn in-app points into tangible rewards for maintaining healthy streaks.
