Inspiration
Our team mainly drew inspiration from applications such as Honey and Uber Eats and created this website which is an infusion of both. A lot of the products we have at home expire before they are fully consumed. We wanted to address the problem with food waste and food insecurity in an all encompassing solution, therefore we were considering ways that we could address both,
What it does
MEALFIX is an online platform that consumers can use to view deals on short-dated products and meals. They can then order directly from our website to have them delivered to their homes.
How we built it
We built this project using HTML, CSS and Javascript. To be able to code together we used the website repl.it where we all were able to simultaneously edit work through problems as a team.
Challenges we ran into
The two of the more prominent challenges that we ran into was being able to align the images and captions in the grid when displaying the variety of products on our website. The second challenge we faced was deciding whether or not to apply a database alongside our website. As a team, we decided it would be best for us to implement it at the end if time permitted.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Considering we had a small time window to get this prototype up and running, our team was very quick to efficiently plan out all stages of our production process.
What we learned
Some cool additions that we added to our website that were a new learning experience for us was a search bar, and creating separate files of code that led users to directed pages.
What's next for MEALFIX
Our group will continue to develop our coding skills and join more great events like this one.
