Inspiration

We were originally inspired by the world of travel, and people taking trips. People on trips get to discover new places and can discover more about themselves. Inspired by the essence of that we wanted to create a platform that was tailored to the user so they could find what fits them.

See we know not everyone can hop on a flight across the world, and some might only have a couple minutes to focus on themselves while picking out an outfit in the morning - so that is what brings us to the beauty of this project and the beauty of you! We can find what fits in with your busy work schedule, what is cozy enough to let you take a minute to breathe, and how many dollar signs it takes until you say "this one's just right." Allowing you to find your best match and taking you moment is what we strive to do, so you can find the best part of you.

Hence: Me Time Moments

What it does

Me Time Moments is a web app that promotes self care and encourages the user to get to know themselves better. First, MTM will guide you through a questionnaire about your self care goals - questions like:

  • cozy or active?
  • free or bougie?
  • indoor or outdoor?
  • am or pm?

We will use these to find your perfect match, so taking time for yourself will always fit in the plan. Scrutinous scheduling shouldn't always have to be part of the plan - let us focus on that so you can focus on you!

So upon completion of the questionnaire, MTM will generate your tailored solo date idea!

How we built it

We created a group repository on GitHub and got to work. There are plenty of different languages patchworked into this project: html, JavaScript, CSS, PHP, Python - we each grabbed a piece of the project and started working on pulling together this vision. We've created a database that allows us to interact with our ideas, and search based on a users given criteria. Our beautiful website with graphics, buttons, multiple pages, and ooh sliders, lets you choose your preferences for the perfect "self" date. Using that we use our program to sort through the data and find the right fit. We also utilized: Google workspace, react, .tech domain, supabase database, python flask, GitHub, Canva, and Splice.

Challenges we ran into

What challenges didn’t we run into? We encountered issues with pull requests, connecting our database, hosting a dynamic website (which apparently doesn’t happen through GitHub pages…), which language to use for back end functionality, and how to survive off of six coffees, two energy drinks, and three hours of sleep.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This is the first hackathon for our entire team - we’re all fairly green developers. There wasn’t a clear path forward, but each of us stepped up to research new concepts and contribute significant pieces of the project one step at a time. Everyone has done a fantastic job and we've all done more then we ever imagined.

What we learned

We've all learned so much! We've learned so much about frontend to backend connections, APIs, accessing and creating outside databases, collaboration across GitHub, using different programming languages, and lots more. For all of us we've had to use programming languages we haven't had experience in, and learn how to collaborate across the gap while also learning lots of the basics.

What's next for Me Time Moments

Me time moments is build with lots of upward mobility. If we were to pursue our project further there are lots of cool things we could add. We could expand our search and database capabilities allowing for even more ideas! We could allow users to input there own "date ideas," create more search categories, create flexibility to fill our database out with more online ideas, and explore bringing AI intelligence to customize user experience further. Along with that, we would expand on our vision of creating a fantastic self care platform. Allowing for more user input such as diaries, goal tracking, reviews, and custom search options would create better self care connection with users.
