Mohamed was inspired by a friend who is a medical cannabis patient who had an adverse reaction due to a high-dose edible product. The friend fell and hit their head, causing an injury that could have been prevented if staff at the dispensary had better dosing guides and clinical decision support. Once the idea was thought of to bring MC Genius to dispensaries, we realized there was actually a massive market across the entire medical cannabis industry - ranging everywhere from academic research to ancillary product development. Chris did the coding and Mohamed did the clinical work and framework logic, however we quickly learned that we both had to learn about the others' specialty in order to turn an idea into a minimal viable product. The biggest challenge we faced was deciding what action items were highest priority at different stages in the hackathon.

MC Genius is a medical cannabis drug information resource, clinical decision support service, electronic wellness record, and method for patients to interact with pharmacists who assess the efficacy and safety of different cannabis products relative to specific patient factors as well as product-specific elements. All of the components are integrated through a centralized database that provides personalized information to different stakeholders/customers.

We are incredibly proud of our stamina and willingness to finish what we started, despite the many challenges and complex project elements that forced us to engage in significant independent learning activities.

Next, MC Genius will be featured not only on the phones and laptops of medical cannabis patients and local dispensaries- but also in the laboratories of multi-million dollar entities and government regulators. Thanks for the opportunity, Pitt Challenge!
